Amphotericin B and Covid testing kits have been exempted

Import tax on defined active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and raw materials for Amphotericin B till August end has been exempted by the CBIC (The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs), whereas the Covid test kits manufacturing has been exempted till September end. Till September end, raw material imports of Amphotericin B and Covid testing kits have been exempted by the Government.

The board made this decision in the interest of the public. This decision is parallel to the Make in India policy and improves the chances of bringing down the prices of such products for the common man in the country, as per the experts.

The exemption has been made by the Government after thorough consideration to not only defeat covid-19 but also make the domestic industry self-dependent during the pandemic.

The CBIC has informed 5% on 18 Covid related relief materials such as oxygen concentrators and remdesivir injections, and deducting the tax on ambulances from 28% to 12%, until 30th September.

Similarly, prices of pulse oximeters, ventilators, hand sanitisers, Bipap machines, Covid testing kits and oxygen concentrators, including the drugs recommended by the Health Ministry, etc., have been reduced to 5% from 12% or 18% till September 30.

Drugs that are being used for the treatment of black fungi such as Tocilizumab and Amphotericin B have been exempted from GST completely.
